Re-membering South Asian Feminist Poetics

Poetry Workshop and Open Mic

Explore how feminist poetics can re-work, re-conceptualise and re-imagine social and cultural scripts to include self-defined identities and challenge gender-based oppression. Join writer, creative practitioner and educator Dr. Mona Manjot Dhaliwal for an exploration of the South Asian feminist poetics of resistance and reclamation.

This workshop will investigate the dichotomies of stereotypes/subversions, oppression/refusal and observation/voice through the poetry of Kishwar Naheed, Fahmida Riaz and Amrita Pritam. This will be used to produce a re-reading of social and cultural narratives and to inspire poetry writing exercises. There will time to discuss, write and share poetry in a friendly and accessible space.

Dr Mona Manjot Dhaliwal has been running poetry programming across the UK for over four years. Her workshops feature a unique blend of accessible writing techniques and in-depth knowledge.
